| Burke County United way acts to engage the entire community in giving, advocating and volunteering to meet our basic community needs and develop strategic initiatives that will eliminate the root causes of our core needs. We multiply the individual volunteer hours and funds donated to make the greatest impact on our community. Our local budget and allocations volunteers review the outcomes of program services and allocate funds that provide emergency housing, meals and food, mental health and substance abuse treatment, community health clinic services, emergency assistance and disaster response, and prevention programs for youth including mentoring, scouting, and out of home placement in a local group home.
Additionally, Burke County United Way takes on the role of convener and facilitator to engage all parts of the community in planning, discussion and investment around our key needs and impact areas. Those areas are:
- Unemployment/underemployment
- Access to affordable medical care/insurance
- Child Abuse and neglect
- Substance Abuse
- Mental health services
