| UUnited Way of the New River Valley's mission is to unite local people and resources to improve lives in the New River Valley. United WayF focuses solely on local health and human services, providing support to 25 local charities (including the Free Clinic of the NRV, Women's Resource Center of the NRV, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, New River Family Shelter, Montgomery County Emergency Assistant Program, Floyd County Emergency Assistance Program, Radford Meals on Wheels, and more.
United Way also coordinates VolunteerNRV, the New River Valley Volunteer Center - a collaborative effort that connects local volunteers and resources with local volunteer opportunities and information about local non-profits. Currently 160 New River Valley non-profits participate.
In addition, UW assists with community initiatives such as 2-1-1 Virginia and VT Engage; coordinates Federal Emergency Food and Shelter program funding to local charities; coordinates Gifts-In-Kind International donations (such as the Familywize discount prescription cards) for non-profits in our area; and handles information and referral calls for residents looking for help, information and volunteer opportunities.
